CJJ CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS

The following positions on the Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) Executive Board are open this spring. Eligibility criteria and terms of office, as well as when the elections will be held, are listed below.

Under the leadership of the CJJ National Chair, David Schmidt of New Mexico, the CJJ Executive Board serves as the central governing body and sets the stage strategically, operationally, legally and financially for all of the organization’s programs, projects and services. Board members also engage as national leaders and organizational spokespersons, and assist in resource development/fundraising. Board members are expected to avail themselves to meet monthly for a 90-minute conference call, and to attend in-person planning meetings and other events throughout the year with independent support for travel.

CJJ Principal Responsibilities for Individual Executive Board Member


Elections for the following positions will be held at the CJJ Council of State Advisory Groups (SAGs) Meeting, on the morning of April 11, 2010, at the CJJ National Annual Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. All candidates for the following positions must be a State Advisory Group (SAG) member from a state or territory, including D.C., in good standing in its membership with CJJ. Each candidate will be given a forum to present their goals and ideas. Each SAG that is a current member of CJJ will have one vote for each position.

National Vice Chair-Chair Elect: Two-year term, one term only; typically ascends to the National Chair position followed by the Immediate Past National Chair (each for an additional two years). Terms begins July 1, 2010.

Treasurer/Secretary
: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Prefer to have experience in nonprofit accounting, as the weight of this position falls on the Treasurer side.

Ethnic and Cultural Diversity Chair: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010.
National Youth Chair: One-year term, two-year term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Must be under the age of 24 at the time of the election.

Elections for the following positions will be held at the CJJ Regional Meetings to be held on the afternoon of April 10, 2010, at the CJJ National Annual Spring Conference in Washington, DC. All candidates will be given a forum to present their goals and ideas. Each regional member (including SAG members and individual members at large) will have a vote for their regional officers.

Midwest Regional Chair: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Must be a State Advisory Group (SAG) member from a SAG in good standing in its membership with CJJ from one of the following jurisdictions: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.

Northeast Regional Chair: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Must be a State Advisory Group (SAG) member from a SAG in good standing in its membership with CJJ from one of the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virgin Islands.

Southern Regional Chair: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Must be a State Advisory Group (SAG) member from a SAG in good standing in its membership with CJJ from one of the following jurisdictions: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia.

Western Regional Chair: Two-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. Must be a State Advisory Group (SAG) member from a SAG in good standing in its membership with CJJ from one of the following jurisdictions: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

Elections for the following positions will be held at the CJJ Business Meetings held on behalf of the State Juvenile Justice Specialists and the State DMC Coordinators, respectively, on April 10, 2010, at the CJJ National Annual Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. Candidates will be given a forum to present their goals and ideas. One peer -- a specialist or coordinator – from each of the 56 jurisdictions will have a vote for their respective national representatives.

National Juvenile Justice Specialist: One-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. State Juvenile Justice Specialists from any of the 56 jurisdictions may serve.

National DMC Coordinator: One-year term, no term limit, beginning July 1, 2010. State DMC Coordinators from any of the 56 jurisdictions may serve.
