CALL TO ACTION: Help Put Juvenile Justice Reform on the Senate Floor!

Within the next 60 days, the U.S. Senate will consider several major pieces of legislation. Thus, it is critical that members of the Senate hear from juvenile justice reform allies to ensure that S. 678, legislation to reauthorize the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), is placed on the Senate floor schedule so that it can be voted on by the full Senate this year!

The JJDPA is three years overdue for reauthorization. The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved S. 678, but it must be considered by the full Senate before it can become law. Right now, S. 678 has 16 bipartisan co-sponsors. Increasing the number of co-sponsors to at least 25 over the next few weeks will make the bill stronger and more visible to Senate leaders.

Actions you can take to ensure the JJDPA is reauthorized this year:
  • Call your two Senators and urge them to (1) cosponsor S. 678, the JJDPA reauthorization bill and (2) contact Majority Leader Harry Reid to urge him to put S. 678 on the Senate schedule for a floor vote as soon as possible. Even if you have already contacted them, please reach out to them again. They need to hear from you.
