House Passes Legislation to Reauthorize JABG

On May 19, 2010, the House easily passed H.R. 1514, the Juvenile Accountability Block Grants Program Reauthorization Act of 2010, simple legislation that would authorize the JABG program at current levels through 2014. H.R. 1514 does not make any substantive changes to the program.

H.R. 1514 is sponsored by House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI), House Judiciary Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-TX) and House Crime and Drugs Subcommittee Ranking Member Louie Gohmert (R-TX). The legislation now awaits consideration by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Senate cross-file, S. 2866, is sponsored by Senator Roland Burris (D-IL). Like H.R. 1514, S. 2866 simply authorizes the JABG program at current levels through 2014. It, too, awaits consideration by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
